The Process of Photosynthesis

Photosynthesis is the process by which plants, algae, and some bacteria convert light energy into chemical energy. This process occurs mainly in the chloroplasts of plant cells, where chlorophyll absorbs sunlight. Using sunlight, plants combine carbon dioxide from the air with water from the soil to produce glucose and oxygen as byproducts.

Photosynthesis is essential for life on Earth because it produces oxygen, which is required by most living organisms for respiration. It also forms the basis of the food chain by providing energy to herbivores and the animals that prey on them. Without photosynthesis, life on Earth would not be sustainable as we know it.
