The Structure of the Human Skeleton

The human skeleton consists of 206 bones that provide structure, support, and protection to the body. The skeleton is divided into two main parts: the axial skeleton, which includes the skull, spine, and rib cage, and the appendicular skeleton, which includes the limbs and their attachments. Together, these bones form the framework that supports the body's muscles and organs.

Bones also play an essential role in producing blood cells and storing minerals like calcium and phosphorus. Joints allow for movement, while ligaments and tendons provide stability and flexibility. The skeleton is constantly being remodeled, with old bone tissue being replaced by new tissue, a process that helps keep the body strong and healthy.
