Creation Myths from Around the World

Creation myths are among the oldest and most powerful stories, explaining how the world came into being and humanity’s place within it. From the biblical account of creation in the Book of Genesis to the Māori myth of Tāne, who separated the earth from the sky, different cultures offer unique stories about the origins of the universe. In Norse mythology, the world was born from the body of the giant Ymir, while in Hindu mythology, the universe emerged from the cosmic ocean.

These stories often reflect the values and beliefs of the cultures that created them. They reveal how ancient civilizations understood their world, nature, and the divine. While the details vary greatly, the central theme of creation – of how the earth, humanity, and life itself came to be – is a universal part of human history and storytelling.
