Egyptian Mythology and Afterlife

The ancient Egyptians believed in an elaborate and intricate afterlife, where the soul's journey was filled with challenges and trials. Central to this belief system were gods like Osiris, the god of the afterlife, who judged the souls of the dead, and Anubis, the god of mummification and the protector of the dead. The process of mummification was vital to ensure the soul's safe passage to the afterlife.

The Egyptians believed that the afterlife mirrored life on Earth, where the soul would be judged by Osiris and either allowed to enter the Field of Reeds or condemned to be devoured by Ammit, the devouring goddess. The Book of the Dead, a collection of spells and incantations, was used to help guide the deceased through this journey and ensure they were granted eternal life.
