What is Space Weather?

Space weather refers to the interaction between the solar wind, Earth’s magnetic field, and radiation from the Sun. Solar flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs) are powerful bursts of energy that can disrupt satellite communications, GPS systems, and power grids on Earth. These phenomena occur when the Sun releases massive amounts of energy, which then travel through space.

Solar flares and CMEs can also pose a risk to astronauts in space, which is why space agencies closely monitor solar activity. Space weather is an essential area of study, as it helps protect technology and ensure the safety of astronauts and missions.
