Pluto’s Status: A Dwarf Planet

Pluto was once considered the ninth planet in our solar system, but in 2006, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) reclassified it as a dwarf planet. This decision was based on the fact that Pluto does not clear its orbit of other debris, one of the criteria for being classified as a planet. Despite this reclassification, Pluto remains one of the most intriguing objects in the solar system.

Pluto’s surface is covered in ice, and it has five known moons, including Charon, its largest. NASA’s New Horizons mission, which flew by Pluto in 2015, provided detailed images and data, revealing a complex and geologically active world.
