The Basics of Evolution

The theory of evolution explains how species adapt and change over time through natural selection. Charles Darwin’s groundbreaking work on this theory shows that organisms with traits that improve survival are more likely to pass those traits to their offspring. Over many generations, this leads to the gradual transformation of a species into a new form.

Evolution occurs as a result of genetic variations within a population. These variations may give certain individuals an advantage in surviving environmental challenges. As these individuals reproduce, their advantageous traits become more prevalent in the population, driving the evolution of new species.
