  • Supporting the WWF

Visit the WWFHere at GrandMatrix we love to have fun and play games. But that does not mean we turn a blind eye to what is going on around us. That is why we take an active role in supporting the WWF. You have probably heard of them or recognise their famous panda logo. In almost 5 decades, WWF (formerly known as the World Wildlife Fund) has become one of the world's largest and most respected independent conservation organizations.

Their work covers many different areas - from policy work to campaigning, on-the-ground action to education and capacity building. With almost 5 million supporters distributed throughout 5 continents, WWF has offices in over 90 countries and can safely claim to have played a major role in the evolution of the international conservation movement.

Since 1985, WWF has invested over US$1 billion in more than 12,000 projects. All these projects and activities play a part in the campaign to stop the accelerating degradation of Earth's natural environment, and to help its human inhabitants live in greater harmony with nature.

One person can only donate so much time or money to help an organisation. But with several thousand people passing through the GrandMatrix site everyday, collectively we really can make a difference. Now don't panic, we are not about to start rattling collection tins at you - we are not asking for donations! By simply using this site, downloading and buying PC games, taking part in the forums and having some fun you can help raise funds for the WWF and make a difference. Here's how it works:

Visit the WWF1) For every PC game sold from this site we donate $1 to the WWF. Simple. This money is made as a straight donation at the end of each month. We also send out a short email to everyone who purchases a game to let you know how much money has been raised. Over a typical month the amount raised can add up to several hundred dollars.

2) As members post in the forums we buy gifts to help the WWF and give certificates away to members. When a target number of posts has been reached a gift is purchased - and we set a relatively low target so it can easily be reached. The gifts range in value from $15 to $200 and include paying for a sick or injured turtle to be nursed back to health, planting a tree or saving the habitat of a gorilla. Each gift comes with a personlized certificate which is given away to a selected member who has been actively contributing to the forums.
