Steve, I ask Mary to post it. I would of myself but as she showed it to me in the first place I didn't think it would be right. It's basically mirroring the 2 numbers over each other. your 9+9 would have the loops at the top imposed over themselves and the tails meeting at a point. 
If it was mirrored side by side your answer would work

You don't get a triangle by mirroring a 7 and placing it over the other one. '7' is half a triangle to start with.
You do however get a nice fish, a clear 8, a perfect triangle (and a pair of specs) by mirroring the left number and placing it side by side with the right number. This is apparent if you write the numbers rather than typing them.
